Barcelona is at the forefront of an urban revolution otherwise known as superblocks. At the heart of it lies a simple yet contentious idea - to reclaim the streets that are normally used by cars and turn them into pedestrian-friendly, green zones. To date, three barrios of Barcelona have become superblocks. More are in store, however not without opposition. One thing is certain - the concept which was invented and developed here is quickly spreading to other cities around the globe.
Guests (in order of appearance):
Mario Ramon, industrial engineer and a Science and Technology of Sustainability Master's student at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)
Sergi Luengo, social education worker and anthropologist; lives in Barcelona's first superblock in Poblenou
Daniel Alsina, Technical Director and Coordinator for the Office of Superblocks at Barcelona City Council
Stephen Burgen, Contributor on Spain for The Guardian and Financial Times
